Mrs. Pettit was born in Three Rivers, MI. on August 10, 1923, the daughter of the late Howard R. and Allie L. Robertson Noe.
She graduated from Shields High School in Seymour, IN. in 1941.
Mrs. Pettit married Robert E. Pettit of Columbus, IN. on September 03, 1944 in Cincinnati, OH. during WWII and he preceded her in death on October 27, 1998.
They were the owners of the Pettit Grocery in Garden City from 1945 thru 1965.
Mrs. Pettit is survived by two children, Steven E. (Judy) Pettit of Shelbyville, IN. and Janice (Logan) Freck of Columbus, IN.; two grandchildren, Susan (Daniel) Hanson of Phoenix, AZ. And Jonathan (Yuhua) Pettit of Bloomington, IN.; and three great grandchildren, Kaya and Myra Pettit and Caroline Hanson.
A graduate of Bethesda Hospital School of Nursing in Cincinnati, OH. During WWII she was employed in Savanna, IL. and in LaPorte, IN. She returned to nursing in Columbus, IN. in 1962. Mrs. Pettit retired from nursing at Columbus Regional Hospital in 1986. As a registered nurse she was a head nurse of orthopedics and upon retiring she was the Assistant Director of Nursing. During her years at Columbus Regional Hospital, she was head of the code team and set up code carts throughout the hospital. She also directed and trained for codes and was in charge of many mock codes. She was a volunteer for Research to Recovery where she counseled mastectomy patients.
She volunteered at the Senior Center for Medical Assessments. Mrs. Pettit was also involved in Girls Scouts in which she served as a Girls Scout and Brownie Leader of Troup 69. She and her husband were members of the Corvette Club of Columbus and were also members of the Organaires. She was a member of the Fairlawn Presbyterian Church.
A private committal service will be conducted at the Garland Brook Mausoleum Chapel on Friday, September 24, 2010 with Phil Newton officiating.
Calling hours for Mrs. Pettit will be from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 23, 2010 at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th St.

Mrs. Pettit was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, a brother, William R. Noe, MD, a sister, Mary A. Noe Cohen and a daughter-in-law, Carol L. Pettit.
