He lived most of his life in Columbus. He worked at Arvin Industries for almost 10 years and then went to Cummins Engine Company and retired from there after 28 years.
In 1959 he married Evelyn Followell and in 1966 they started the Hope Apostolic Home Missions Church, where he preached many sermons and encouraged and helped many, many people.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmore Smith, Sr. and Addie Shutters Smith; brother Elmore Smith, Jr.; 2 nephews, Greg and Tim Smith.
He is survived by a brother, Rev. Clarence Smith; sister, Ann Sharer; wife, Evelyn Smith; son; David Smith; granddaughter, Haley Burton Neal; 2 great grandchildren; 5 nieces and 3 nephews, Brian and David Smith, Steve, Chris and Mark Sharer, Gail Smith, Cyndi Bennett and Lori.
He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Myers~Reed Chapel on 25th Street with Rev. Clarence Smith officiating. Calling will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday and from 10:00 a.m. to service time Friday. Burial will be in Garland Brook Cemetery.
