Mary A. Clark, 94, of Columbus, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 14th 2020 at Four Seasons Health Care Center. She was born on October 13, 1925 in Galesburg, Illinois to George M. and Susie H Clark. She graduated from Oneida High School in 1943. She then attended and graduated from Monmouth College and later obtained her Master’s degree from Illinois Wesleyan University.
Mary was a school teacher for many years. She taught in Hamilton, IL, Eureka, IL, and Gary, IN for 25 years before beginning her teaching career in Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation for 39 years. She taught Music and Choir at Columbus East High School in Columbus, IN from 1967-2006 where she organized and directed various musical plays and productions. Mary was a dedicated and active supporter of the Musical Arts throughout her lifetime. She was an expert piano player, a member and director of the silver tones senior choir, and a teacher evaluator for Indiana University. Mary was the recipient of the Golden Baton Award, given by the Columbus, Indiana philharmonic in 2007, and was honored by the city of Columbus with the Proclamation for Mary Clark Day in 2018 for her dedication and service to the community. For decades, she was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Columbus, Indiana and the adult choir. She was an avid world traveler, visiting many places, including England, Egypt, China, Antarctica, Africa, and many others. She led an active and fulfilled life and will be missed by many.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, and two brothers. She is survived by many nieces and nephews. At the request of the deceased cremation will occur and her ashes will be interred at First Presbyterian Church Columbarium in Columbus, Indiana. At a later date there will be a memorial service at the First Presbyterian Church.
