Lela Irene Hillenberg

Born at Letts Corner in Decatur County, March 28, 1929, Irene was the daughter of Russell Sands Gray and Leora Gail Summa. She was a 1947 graduate of Columbus High School, worked for many years as a floor superintendent at C.P. Electronics and later retired from Cummins Engine Company after 18 years of service as office manager at the GOB. She enjoyed bingo, cards, casino gambling and dancing, especially line dancing.

Irene is survived by her children, James W. Moss of Greensburg, Dale (Linda) Moss and Jill Moss-Graham of Columbus and Jolynn Dawn Moss-Tatro of Destin, Florida; grandchildren, Carl, Sally, Max, Michael, Caleb and James Moss II, Heather Tatro-LaStarza, Dylan Graham, Jacinda Hughes and Jeni Melton; great-grandchildren, Sawyer and Everett Moss, Lacey Close, Declan LaStarza, Brandon Harper, Kaylee Hughes and soon-to-be-born Gemma LaStarza; and a niece, Regina Gray-Rosebrock.

She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; her first husband, Richard Dale Moss; her second husband, Roy E. Hillenberg; a daughter, Janita Kay Moss; and a brother, Norman “Sonny” Gray.

The funeral service for Irene will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 19, 2016, at Hathaway-Myers Chapel on Pearl Street with the Rev. Jerry K. Day Sr. officiating. Burial will follow at Garland Brook Cemetery. Calling will be from 11 a.m. until service time Thursday.
