Mr. Lockard was a machinist at Cosco for 37 years, retiring in 1988, and also worked as a security guard with Columbus Security for 10 years. He was a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
An Army veteran of World War II, he served in Company B of the 25th Tank Battalion in the Rhineland, Central Europe and Ardennes. He was wounded in Belgium Dec. 21, 1944, for which he received the Purple Heart. He was also decorated with the EAME Theatre Ribbon with three Bronze Stars, the American Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Ribbon.
He was a race fan and enjoyed working on and building race cars that his son raced
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street with Dr. Amy Freyn and Pastor Doran Chambers officiating.
Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the service Wednesday.
Burial will be at Springer Cemetery at Elizabethtown with military rites conducted by Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard.

Born in Domino, Ky., June 9, 1923, Mr. Lockard was the son of Mort and Susie Watkins Lockard. He married Katherine Watkins Nov. 24, 1945, at Hazard, Ky.
Survivors include his wife; daughters, Linda (Daniel) White and Bonnie Franke, both of Columbus, and Cheryl Ann (Michael) Lewis of Alexandria, Minn.; sons, Donald (Marie Giberson) Lockard of Auburndale, Fla., and Rick Lockard of Columbus; and grandchildren, Donnie, Jeff, Rachael, Travis and Bailey Lockard, Kathy Davis, Joshua and Alex White, Jamie and Amy Freyn and Zachary Dettmer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and a brother.
