Elizabeth L. “Bette” Newman King, 90, formerly of Columbus, died at 6:40 p.m. Wednesday October 8, 2014, in the Lutheran Community Home in Seymour.
Bette was born August 31, 1924, in Indianapolis, the daughter of George and Eleanor Wettrick Newman who preceded her in death. She was a member of Tri Kappa Sorority for over 50 years, a longtime member of St. Peters Lutheran Church where she was active with the Christian Fellowship group and was an avid Bridge player and puzzle worker.
Among Bette’s survivors are her sons, Douglas (Tricia) King of Monroe, OH, John (Ela) King of St. Michaels, AZ and Jeff (Patty) King of North Carolina; daughters, Judy King of Carmel and Linda (Ken) Nelson of Helena, MT; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and a brother, Jack (Marilyn) Newman of Tulsa, OK.
Besides her parents, Bette was preceded in death by her former husband, John E. King and a sister, LaVerne McGraw.
Calling for Bette will be from noon until 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2014 at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street. Entombment will follow with services in the Mausoleum at Garland Brook Cemetery.
