Charles Russell Van Hook

Mr. Van Hook had worked for Chrysler Corporation in New Castle for 10 years before coming to Columbus and working for Cummins Engine Company from 1959 until retirement in 1990. He was a longtime member of 10th Street Church of Christ where he had served as Deacon and helped build the church building, which later became Lakeview Church of Christ where his membership is currently. He was a faithful servant of God.

He had served in the U.S. Navy on the SS Gus W. Darnell during World War ll and was the recipient of the Victory Medal, the American Area Asiatic Pacific Medal with two stars and the Philippines Liberation Medal with one star.

He enjoyed hobby farming, collecting Case knives, fishing and hunting. He was a Kentucky Wildcats fan and a very outgoing person.

Funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday at Myers-Reed Chapel on 25th Street with Rich Gant officiating. Calling will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and one hour prior to the service Saturday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard.

Born Feb. 2, 1925, in Stanford, Ky., Mr. Van Hook was the son of Frank and Florence Burke Van Hook. He married Lucille Bustle Dec. 24, 1946, in Danville, Ky. She preceded him in death April 26, 2010.

Survivors include a daughter, April (Keith) Ritzline of Columbus; a granddaughter, Allison Ritzline of Columbus; a sister-in-law, Daisy Van Hook of New Castle; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and brothers, Ollie Ray Van Hook and Homer Lee Van Hook, both in 1995.
