Tom grew up in Selma, Alabama. He graduated from A. G. Parrish High School in Selma, AL. After graduating from Auburn University, he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army. He spent 25 years in the Army and retired in 1980 as a Lieutenant Colonel from Fort Benning, GA. While in the service of his country he deployed to South Korea and had a combat tour in South Vietnam. His awards included the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with palm, Vietnam Service Medal with 4 bronze stars, Air Medal with Bronze Star, and the Meritorious Service Medal. After his retirement from the Army, Tom worked in the Columbus, GA school system teaching Army Junior ROTC until his retirement in 1990.
Tom married Juanita (Pug) in 1955 in Selma, AL. They were happily married for 58 years and raised three children: Karen, Tom, and Janet. Tom was a godly man who made a difference for Christ in his family and his church. He was a deacon at Edgewood Baptist Church in Columbus, GA for many years. Tom’s true legacy is seen in his children and their children’s lives and love for Christ. They all love Christ and are passing that love on through their families, friends, neighbors, and church. This is the true testimony to a life well-lived for Christ. We are so grateful that Tom is now hearing, “Well done, my good and faithful servant!” from his Lord and Savior and that he has been released from his corrupted, mortal body.
Tom was preceded in death by his wife, Pug; parents, Wilmer and Lillian; brother, Roy; and sister, Fay.
Tom is survived by his children Karen (husband: Lee), Tom (wife: Debra), and Janet; grandchildren Michael, Phillip, Kate, Susan, Caleb, and Hannah; and great grandchildren Silas, Elanor, Scotty, Naomi, Ryan, and Jeremy.
The family will have a private graveside ceremony at Ft Mitchell National Cemetery on 15 December 2022.
