A service to celebrate his life will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, July 20, 2017 at First Baptist Church of Columbus with Dr. Jimmy Elder officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby Funeral Home, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA, 31907. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall.
Dr. Cochran was born September 6, 1945 in Chattanooga, TN, son of Jo Cobb Cochran and the late Thomas A. Cochran, Sr. Dr. Cochran received his BS degree from the University of Georgia in 1967 and completed his medical degree at the Medical College of Georgia in 1971. He continued his training with a surgical internship and three year surgical residency at Baylor University Hospital in Dallas, Texas. After completing a two year residency in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Dr. Cochran began practicing medicine in Columbus, Georgia in 1977. He was a board certified Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon, and was on the staff of St. Francis Hospital, Columbus Regional and Doctors Hospital. Dr. Cochran has served on the board of directors of the Chattahoochee Council of Boy Scouts of America and served on the board of the St. Francis Hospital Foundation.
Outside of his medical practice, Dr. Cochran was an avid outdoorsman. He loved every aspect of hunting, fishing and enjoying God’s creations. Also, Dr. Cochran loved to support the Columbus Cottonmouths, and was an active participant in the adult hockey league. Dr. Cochran loved being with his family and was an active member of First Baptist Church of Columbus.
Survivors include his sons, Christopher Cochran, Kevin Cochran and his wife, Julie, and his daughter, Kendall Cochran; his grandson, Case Cochran; his mother, Jo Cobb Cochran; his sister, Gaye Smith; his brother, Randy Cochran, and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.
