Shirley Lee Owens, age 70, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Friday January 24, 2020. A visitation for family and friends for Shirley will be held Monday, January 27, 2020 in The St. Elmo Room from 11:00 AM to 2:30 PM at Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia 31907. A Celebration of Shirley's life will occur Monday, January 27, 2020 at 3:00 PM in the Chapel of The Pines Mausoleum of Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia.
Shirley was born December 3, 1949 in Jacksonville, Florida to her late parents, Gloria Bean Gordy and William Lee Gordy. She married Mr. Larry Owens in Carson City, Nevada in 1970 and became a military wife. Shirley was a very private person but loved and enjoyed her family. She was with food services at Muscogee County Schools and loved to cook and share new recipes with them. Shirley enjoyed collecting little cute knick-knacks and laughing at old comedies and old movies. She will be remembered as being a strong willed, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.
Along with her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her step father, Irvin Mullins. She is survived by her husband, Larry Owens, Sr.; son, Larry Owens, Jr; daughter, Amanda Owens; and daughter, Laura Mullins; sister, Dorothy Thomas; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; other family members and many friends to cherish her memory.
