Sara Ayres Jordan, age 84 of Columbus, GA, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on October 13, 2018. Sara is the daughter of the late William Bryan and Thelma Monk Ayres and was born in Columbus, GA, on August 25, 1934.
Graveside Services will be Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. in Parkhill Cemetery with Dr. Jimmy Elder officiating according to Striffler- Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA, 31907. The family will greet family and friends immediately following the service at the graveside.
Sara graduated from Columbus High School in 1953. She attended the University of Georgia and received a Bachelor of Science in Education from Auburn University. She married D.L. Jordan on February 28, 1970. They had two daughters, Karen and Jennifer. Sara was an elementary school teacher for the Muscogee County School district for 12 years. What she enjoyed most was being a wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by: her husband, D.L. Jordan; two daughters, Karen (Kenny) Hopkins, Jennifer (Mark) Foster; seven grandchildren, Casey Hopkins, Kristin Hopkins, Sara (Robby) Ayala, Sara Ashleigh Foster, Blake Foster, Olivia Foster and Caroline Foster. Sara was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Bryan Ayres and her sister Anne Ayres Hewitt.
Voluntarism was an important part of Sara’s life. She was a longtime volunteer at the Callaway Gardens Butterfly Center and throughout her life had a special love for the elderly, often visiting and taking flowers to people who were home bound or confined to nursing homes.
