A celebration of Ruth’s life will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church with The Reverend Dr. Shirley Redmond officiating according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, GA. Interment to follow in Parkhill Cemetery. A visitation for family and friends will be one hour prior to the service.
Ruth was born in Stuttgart, Germany on July 6, 1930 to the late Karl and Maria Baumann Kohler. Ruth was loved by her family in Germany, and she took very good care of her brother, Karlheinz during the war. She met and married her husband, Jerome B. Redmond in Stuttgart while he was serving in the U.S. Army following World War II. Ruth and Jerry had three children and were married for 40 years. Ruth devoted her life to her family. She instilled in her children the value of education and the service of others. Ruth was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church; she and Jerry took the family to church almost every Sunday.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome B. Redmond, her son, Michael K. Redmond, her brother Karlheinz and his wife, Renate.
Survivors include her son, LTC (Ret) Stephen A. Redmond (Cindy) of Panama City Beach, FL, her daughter The Reverend Dr. Shirley M. Redmond of Columbus, GA, daughter-in-law, Brenda K. Redmond of Huntsville, AL; grandchildren, Scott Redmond (Nikki), Blake Redmond (Michelle), Leah Redmond Chiocca (Joe) and Mark Redmond; great grandchildren, Taylor Redmond, Jackson Redmond, Rex Redmond and Cecilia Redmond.
