Robert W. Richmond of Columbus, Georgia at the age of 76 passed from this life to his heavenly home on Thursday, March 2, 2023 after a brief illness with dementia. We are so thankful he never lost the awareness of who we were.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at 12:00 noon in the Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd Columbus, Georgia. Family will visit with friends from 11:00 AM until time of the service at 12:00 noon. Burial will be in Fort Mitchell National Cemetery at 2:00 PM with military honors.
Robert was born next to the youngest of six siblings to Rev. William and Reba Richmond on January 10, 1947. He was raised in Harlan County, Kentucky and after graduating High School he followed two of his brothers who were working at General Motors in Pontiac, Michigan. After a year or so, he was drafted into the United States Army and did his basic training at Fort Benning. A few months later he met his wife to be, Joan Wolfe. He was deployed to Vietnam and after returning on January 4, 1968 they married on January 28, 1968 and just celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary. They returned together to Michigan as Robert’s job was waiting on him. He promised he would bring her back home and just under a year he did just that.
Robert was a smart man and he decided he would further his education at Columbus College. He started Richmond College of Business at Cross Country Plaza and it later became Richmond-Meadows. He, for a number of years enjoyed the car business when he had Richmond Motor Company. Robert loved people and they loved him. He had so many friends and acquaintances throughout the years, he felt Columbus was his home.
He always said he wanted a little girl just like her Mama, and two years after they married they had Rhonda. She married Christopher Boyd in 1994 and they have one son, Garrett, born in 2001. There are no words what this grandson meant to his Grandaddy. Garrett was his world and nothing else could top the relationship they shared. Anything Garrett wanted Grandaddy made it happen. They enjoyed 21 ½ years together, which wasn’t enough.
Robert was so loved by his family and it is so hard to give him up in this life. He loved his savior the Lord Jesus Christ and we know he is with Him and we will be together again one day.
Robert is survived by his loving wife Joan Wolfe Richmond, a daughter Rhonda Richmond Boyd and her husband Chris Boyd, who we adore; grandson Garrett Boyd, who is his Granmama’s and was his Grandaddy’s greatest joy. Sister-in-law and Brother-in-law Renee and Butch Hawkins of Panama City, FL; Niece Sheree Hawkins-Tharp of Vista, CA; Nephew Jamie Andrews of Birmingham, AL; Niece Dr. Allie Andrews of Jackson, MS; Niece Theresa Deaton of Centerville, OH; Nephews: Michael Deaton of Columbus, OH and Bill Richmond of Tampa, FL.
He is predeceased by his parents Rev. William and Reba Richmond and Mother and Father-in-law Clyde and Lois Wolfe; brother-in-law Clyde Wolfe, Jr. and Niece Heather Wolfe Mote. Siblings: Sister Jewell Deaton and Brothers: Don, Frank, Charles, and David Richmond.
