Patricia Cobb, 74, of Phenix City, Al., passed peacefully on October 2, 2023. A graveside service will be held for Patricia on Monday, October 9, 2023 at 2 PM at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road, Columbus, Ga. 31907.
Originally of Columbus, Ga., Patricia was born to a “Textiles” family. She was raised in Talladega, Al., then moved to Columbus, Ga. for high school. Patricia was in the Jordan High School’s graduating class of 1967 and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education from Columbus College in 1972. She was an enthusiastic participant in Jordan High School and Columbus College activities including the Band and Marching Band in high school, playing the French horn, and the Baptist Student Union in college. She was a devout and energetic Baptist with her parents at Britt David Baptist Church, as a student at Columbus College’s Baptist Student Union, and as an adult with various other congregations. Patricia became an Elementary School Teacher in Phenix City, Al. and remained there for 6 years until marrying the love of her life, James -- for a marriage of 45 years. She was an energetic participant, as a teacher in Alabama, in regional political campaigns and with the 1970’s Alabama-version of the NEA to improve Alabama public schools for students and teachers. After marriage, Patricia taught in the Jefferson County, Co. school system for a short time. With the birth of their daughter, Katherine, she chose to be a full time mother, wife and homemaker while living in Colorado, Massachusetts, and finally, Alabama.
Patty was a devoted granddaughter, daughter, sister, wife, and Mother. Full of life and engaged with it, she was always on board to celebrate a day. A craft enthusiast, Patty picked crafts up as they appeared on her radar, including sewing, crochet, macramé and tole painting. --And she made a cozy Home and was a yummy cook.
Pattty was an intrepid explorer of roads and cities, driving a 1973 blue Karmann Ghia, barefoot, with determination and skill -- and frequently, at speed. ...Armed with a friendly manner, a soft Southern voice, remarkable clear-blue eyes and dark, thick-and-feathered lashes, Patty met a friend everywhere she went, including at least 10 cops who didn’t bother writing a traffic ticket.
Patty was taken much too soon by early onset of dementia, and will be deeply missed by all those who know and love her.
Patricia is survived by her Husband, James E. Cobb; Daughter, Katherine Anne Cobb; Sisters, Mary Elizabeth (Beth) Carrico and Deborah Quinn; Sister-in-law, Catherine (Cass) Garrett; and many nieces and nephews.
Patricia is preceded in death by her Parents, John (Bill) and Mary Garrett; and Brother, John Douglas Garrett.
