passed away on Wednesday September 4, 2019 at St. Francis Hospital.
A Grave Side Celebration of Gene's life will occur Monday, September 9,
2019 at 1:00 PM in Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Rd,
Columbus, GA 31907, with Reverend Tommy Henschel
officiating.
Gene was born October 11, 1942 in Monroe County, Mississippi
to Mattie Snow McClarty Rooks and Paskel F Rooks. He
attended Baker High School and was a Barber by trade.
Gene had strong work ethics and worked until his health declined.
He was an artist and enjoyed painting, HAM Radio and
electronics and collecting Indian Artifacts. He loved watching college
football and was an avid Dawgs fan. Gene enjoyed joking around with his
family, friends and customers. He loved his family and passed on his work ethics,
honesty and the importance of treating people right to them. Gene will always be
remembered as a good hard working man, a supporter of his
family and friends as well as a loving father and grandfather.
Other than his parents Gene was preceded in death by his; son
Chuck Rooks; grandson Marty Gunnarsson and step father Hampton Hamilton.
He is survived by his; daughter Cindy Gunnarsson; and her husband
David Gunnarsson; brothers Charles Rooks and Carl Hamilton;
and sisters Brenda Sponaugle and Rita Seagle as well as other extended
family members.
