SSGT (Ret) Orrin L. “Bob” Abbott, age 95, of COLUMBUS, Georgia passed away on Monday, May 29, 2023. A visitation for the family and friends of Orrin will be held Friday, June 2, 2023 from 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary - Columbus, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia. A graveside celebration of Bob's life will follow at 11:00 AM at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia 31907.
Bob was born in Hesperia, Michigan on May 13, 1928; the son of Edward Milton Abbott and Mable Ellen Sortor Abbott. Bob, enlisted in the U.S. Army at the age of 17. He seprated from the Army and enlisted in the U.S. Airforce for a short period before reenlisting in the U.S. Army until his retirement after 20 years of service to our country.He loved being a member of the U.S. Military, specifically the Army. He was a member of Marantha Baptist Church and would attend Faith Fellowship Church. Bob had a passion for music and knew of its importance in enriching us and our homes. He was a frequent performer at Everything Musical’s “Open Mic Days.” He would perform every time he had the opportunity to do so. Bob was a people person and could strike up a conversation with everyone. He loved to get out and meet people. He would often be found at the Waffle House, enjoying himself and the company of others. He thought the world of his friends at Everything Musical and the Waffle House. Bob had a big heart and loved being a member of his large family.
Bob is preceded in death by: his first wife, Anna Marie, wife of 44 years Minnie “Betty” Abbott, and his recent companion and wife, Virginia Abbott; a daughter, Marianne Abbott, three sons, Edward Abbott, Jerry Taylor, Steve Brown; his siblings, Harold, Maurice, Eunice, Grace, Blanche, Edith, Larry, Robert, Sybil; step-children, Butch (Sheila) Martin, Steve Martin, Ken (Edna) Martin; and a step-grandchild, Justin Taylor.
Survivors include, son, Richard (Beth) Abbott; daughter, Julie (Gary) Zabel-Abbott; Floyd “Buster” (Karen) Taylor, Sue (Butch) Taylor Moore, grandchildren, Scott Zabel, Shawn Zabel, Christina Serafin, Kimberly Ernst, Amy Valencia, Herschel Thompson, step-children, Randy (Anette) Martin, Gina (Ray) Reynolds, Gary (Anna) Martin, Mark Martin, Sandra Martin, step-grandchildren, Christy Denny, Tracy Taylor McPherson, Brooke Roddenberry, Lorrie Moore Russell, Clint Moore, Steven Brown, Leigh White, Misty Hunter, Kacie Smith, and many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
