Myrtle was born on New Year’s Day 1925 in Crawford, Alabama. She attended Central High School in Phenix City, Alabama where she took pride in being a Majorette and played basketball.
On May 17, 1947 she married the love of her life, Joseph C. Rivais, Sr. They lived in Columbus, Georgia where they raised their children. She is survived by her son Joseph Jr. (Judy) and daughter, Renee Friedman.
Myrtle was a very busy and active lady on top of raising her family, she managed to do a lot of volunteer work. At one point, she was the president of the Columbus Medical Center Auxiliary. She volunteered over 50, 000 hours! She also worked with Columbus High School sororities and mentored numerous high school girls. She was active in the Beta Sigma Phi Woman’s Organization as well as working at the polls every election day. Myrtle was Christian by faith. She was a member of Rosehill Baptist Church of Columbus. She was so very much loved by all and will be greatly missed!
Family will greet friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM on Friday, November 4, 2022 in the Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd. Columbus, Georgia. A service to celebrate Myrtle’s life will begin at 11:00 AM with Reverend Ed Kvietkus officiating. Following the service will be a committal service in Parkhill Cemetery.
