Maud (Maudie) Elizabeth Baggett, 76, of Columbus, GA, died Thursday, October 28, 2021 peacefully at home. Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 1, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Columbus, Porter Chapel, with Dr. Jimmy Elder officiating, a private entombment will follow at the Chapel of the Pines Mausoleum at Parkhill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be Bradley Harrison, Philip Wynn, Richard Mobley, and Greg Crook. The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church.
Mrs. Baggett was born on November 9, 1944 to the late LTC Fredrick James Simpson and Maud Yarbrough Simpson at Fort Benning, Georgia. She was a 1962 graduate of Columbus High School, and earned 3 degrees from Auburn University. Maudie had been a lifetime resident of Columbus and an active member of First Baptist Church. Mrs. Baggett was a former member of the Reese Road PTA, past President of the Junior Women’s Club, a member of St. Francis Auxiliary, and a member of the Phi Mu Sorority at Auburn University. Maudie was an educator for the Muscogee County School District for 29 years at Johnson Elementary. She is preceded in death by her parents, LTC Fredrick James and Maud Yarbrough Simpson; her cousin, Patricia Yarbrough Crook (Ellis) of Senoia, GA; stepdaughter, Courtney Baggett Potthoff (Kevin) of Eufaula, AL.
She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Donald Leon Baggett of Columbus, GA; three daughters, Wendy Gardner Harrison (Bradley), Jennifer Gardner Wynn (Philip), Amy Gardner Mobley (Richard) all of Columbus, GA; three step-daughters, Cindy Barr of Phenix City, AL, Dee Evans (Don) of Pine Mountain, GA, Colette Barrick (Eric) of Worthington, OH; six grandchildren, Brittany and SGT James Harrison, Reniker and Ellis Nobes, Trey and Gardner Mobley.
