Mason was born in Suffolk, Virginia, on August 11, 1925, and grew up there. He served in the Army Air Force from August, 1943, to November, 1945. He graduated from Virginia Tech with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering, and had a lifetime career in that field.
Mason was the son of William S. Holland and Willie Elam Holland. He was predeceased by brothers Bill Holland, Elam Holland, and Carl Holland, and a sister Anne Holland Voyten.
Mason was a loving father and devoted husband. He was a man of strong principles and devoted to his faith, a member of Striplin Terrace United Methodist Church. He was active in his church and served to help others through prison ministry, meals- on-wheels, and a crisis hotline. He was an excellent bridge player and had a wonderful sense of humor, but more than that, he was a man of wisdom.
He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Beryl Patterson Holland; a son, Mason Jr. (wife Stephanie); and by three daughters: Beverly Abel (husband John), Carolyn Holland (husband Rick Schlack), and Sandi Holland. He has nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.shcolumbus.com for the Holland family.
