Margie Upchurch Hale, GOD'S WARRIOR!, aged 88died peacefully on April 21, 2016. Margie was born August 5, 1927, the daughter of Cecil Roy Upchurch and Louria L. Upchurch. She grew up in Columbus and lived on Eleventh Avenue.
Margie graduated from Jordan High School. Margie worked for the Singer Sewing Company in the 50's and 60's where she became a leader in sales and taught sewing. Margie retired from Singer Sewing to become a full time mother.
On March 25, 1951, Margie married the love of her life Roy Hale Jr.
In 1975 Margie and her husband Roy Hale Jr. started Calvary Christian School with only 12 students. The original location was 3301 13th Avenue in Columbus. Calvary Christian School is now fully accredited and boasts a student population close to one thousand and now has it's main campus located at 7556 Old Moon Road. Calvary's baseball field was named in honor of them, "Hale Field." Margie taught hundreds of students during her long career.
Margie was a devout Christian and member of Calvary Baptist Church for almost her entire life. She was a leader for the Woman's Mission Union (WMU) and volunteer for many other groups.
Margie is survived by her son, Adam and his wife Susan; granddaughter's Tara Forbes and Ashley Luke; grandson, Jason Cooper and his wife Wendy; five great grandchildren; cousin Betty Brim of South Carolina; nieces Cathy Menard and Danielle Jones; nephew Andrew Jones and a number of other relatives and close friends.
Public viewing will be on Monday, April 25, 2016 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Striffler-Hamby located at 4071 Macon Road in Columbus. All friends are invited to attend.
The funeral is on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at 1:00 PM EST at Calvary Baptist Church located at 7556 Old Moon Road in Columbus. A public graveside service will follow at Parkhill Cemetery located at 4161 Macon Road where she will be laid to rest with her beloved husband Mr. Roy Hale Jr.
