A funeral service will be held at 3 PM ET on Tuesday, December 10, 2024 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus with Pastor David Rathel officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. Following interment, guests are invited to Mr. Maxwell’s home for light refreshments and dessert.
The family will receive friends on Monday, December 9, 2024 from 5 PM - 7 PM ET at the funeral home.
Affectionately known as Bob, he was born in Etowah County, Alabama on January 11, 1937. Raised in Glencoe, Alabama, his parents were Marion Luther Maxwell and Stella Bell Lowe Maxwell. As one of sixteen children, he appreciated the simple things in life.
In 1955, Bob enlisted in the United States Army. He completed crane operator training in 1956 and received an honorable discharge in 1957. In September of 2023, he was honored by House of Heroes, Chattahoochee Valley Chapter for his military service with a beautifully updated porch and other home improvements. He was presented a United States flag which was flown over the U.S. Capitol in his honor.
Bob enjoyed his time at Vulcan Materials Company. He worked as a heavy equipment operator. He believed in hard work and always strived to arrive early. He retired after 40 years of service in 1999.
In July 2001, Bob received Christ as Savior. He was baptized by Pastor Daniel Jones and joined Altman Memorial Baptist Church. In recent years, he was a member of Kirkland Memorial Baptist Church in Columbus.
He is survived by his daughter, Pamela Yvonne McCreless, her husband, Gary of Columbus, Georgia; sister, Martha Henderson of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; son, Michael Sizemore, his wife, Juanita of Richton, Mississippi; lifetime friend, Earl Dunn of Glencoe, Alabama; special friend and “daughter”, Linda Herndon Kunze, her husband, John of Fortson, Georgia; longtime friend, Sue Rose of Columbus, Georgia; Maxwell and McWaters nieces and nephews; the best neighbors, Robert Sosebee and Luis Almonte and a host of friends far and near.
Floral tributes in memory of Bob are welcome as well as donations to House of Heroes, Chattahoochee Valley Chapter and Valley Rescue Mission, Columbus, Georgia.
