Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, April 16, 2010 at Parkhill Cemetery, with Reverend Mike Ricker and Reverend Matt Avera officiating, according to Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA. The family will receive friends before the service on Friday, April 16, 2010 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Skinner was born March 18, 1920 in Columbus, GA. He was the son of the late Griggs and Bertha Tharpe Skinner. He spent his early years on his family farm in Seale, AL and graduated from Central High School in Phenix City, AL. Mr. Skinner served in the U. S. Coast Guard during World War II. After the war he joined the J. A. Geiger Company where he worked until his retirement in 1990.
Mr. Skinner is survived by his wife of 61 years, Louise Mickle Skinner; his daughters, Sue Smith and her husband Jim of Sugar Hill, GA and Diane Clardy and her husband Mickey of Columbus, GA; a brother, Fred Skinner and his wife Louise of Salem, AL; grandchildren, Mike Clardy and his wife Julianna of Opelika, AL, Dr. Matt Clardy of Columbus, GA, Laura Eisele and her husband Phil of Pine, CO, Kelly Purcell and her husband Brian of Alpharetta, GA; great grandchildren, Katie, Elizabeth and Michael Clardy, Ridge, Blaze, and Jaguar Eisele, Corinne and Ashley Purcell, and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, those so desiring may make contributions in Mr. Skinner's memory to Wynnton United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 5469, Columbus, GA 31906.
