Lalia was born on July 9, 1930 in Kutch, CO. She was the oldest of four children of Ross Ray Hornbeck and Edna Mildred Ager. She graduated as the Valedictorian of Simla Union High in Simla, CO where she excelled in math and science. She was offered a scholarship to attend the University of Colorado but with the economy during the war, she was unable to attend. After high school graduation she taught school for two years during the war and then attended business school and began working in a hospital.
She worked in several hospitals in the nursing field including Martin Army Community Hospital and later worked in Supply Division before leaving Civil Service at Fort Benning, GA with 14 years of service. Mrs. Martin is predeceased by both of her younger brothers Stanley Hornbeck, Zen Hornbeck and her son Allen Martin. She is survived by her faithful and loving husband of 61 years, Elias J. (E.J.) Martin; her younger sister Lyla Rae Richardson of Thatcher, AZ; one daughter Lanette Sizemore of Hamilton, GA; one grandson Jeff Sizemore and his wife Terry of Pine Mtn. Valley, GA and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 30, 2012 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Striffler Hamby Mortuary on Macon Road. Graveside services will be held on Monday, December 31, 2012 at Parkhill Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Hank Reeves officiating.
