Ken was born February 17, 1952, in Columbus, Georgia. He attended River Road Elementary School, Daniel Jr. High School, and Jordan Vocational High School. Ken was a proud member of the JVHS Red Jacket marching band playing the saxophone. Ken marched with the band in the 1969 U.S. presidential inauguration of Richard Nixon in Washington, D.C. After high school Ken followed in his Dad's footsteps becoming an electrician at Reeves Brothers, Eagle and Phenix Mills in downtown Columbus. Ken also worked for Clary Electric before leaving Columbus and moving to Houston, Texas. In Houston, Ken went to work for Hi-Tech Electric as a supervisor responsible for the installation of electrical systems for many of the current high-rise office buildings in the Houston area. While in Houston, Ken met his future wife, Theresa Cagley Doyle. Ken and Theresa were married on November 22, 1990, and lived in Houston until February 2001 when they moved back to Columbus. Ken and Theresa are members of Evangel Temple Assembly of God Church in Columbus.
Survivors include his wife Theresa, a son and daughter-in-law, Chuck and Michelle Olson of Enterprise, Alabama, one grand-son Samuel Olson, one step-son Darrell Doyle, wife Tina, grandson Dallas, and granddaughter Katie of Tomball, Texas, his mother Frances Hildreth of Columbus, Georgia, his brother and sister-in-law Bobby and Gail Hildreth of Thomson, Georgia, his brother Carl Hildreth of Columbus, Georgia, father-in-law Frank Cagley, two sisters-in-law, Darcy Lewis and Eva Dunlap, six brother-in-laws, Jerry Cagley, Bobby Cagley, Kurt Cagley, Rory Cagley, Patrick Cagley, and Frank Cagley Jr., all of Waterloo, Iowa, one niece Lindsey Hildreth Welch of Watkinsville, Georgia and one nephew Justin Hildreth of Woodstock, Georgia. Ken was preceded in death by his father Carlton D. Hildreth and mother-in-law Pricilla Cagley.
Funeral arrangements include visitation on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Striffler-Hamby on Macon Road in Columbus. The funeral will be graveside at Evergreen Memorial Park on St. Mary's Road in Columbus on Thursday, November 8, 2012 at 3:00 PM with Reverend Watson McKemie officiating. Honorary pall bearers are Pete Taylor, Ray Vasques, Billy Harris, Ken Sauer, Pastor Rick Collins, Don Keffer, Bruce Wood, and Ross Reinkemeyer.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations be made to the Columbus Hospice House, 7020 Moon Road, Columbus, GA, 31909, in memory of Ken Hildreth.
