Judy Williams Bowen

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday January 12, 2022, officiated by Reverend Kevin Calhoun. The service will begin at 1:00 p.m. in Parkhill Cemetery.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Judy was the daughter of the late Dr. Leslie and Mrs. Jewell (Ivey) Williams. She received her Bachelor's degree in Speech and Dramatic Art from Mercer University, and her Master of Education degree from Emory. Later in her career, she was delighted to participate in Dr. Hugo Gregory’s workshop on stuttering therapy at Northwestern University.

In addition to her private practice, Judy worked as a Speech-Language pathologist in Georgia public schools for 30 years. She was a member of the American Speech and Hearing association, the Georgia Association of Educators, and the committee on private practice in speech pathology. She sat on the board of directors of the Friends of the Savannah River and the Washington Little Theater Company, where she acted and directed in a number of productions.

Judy was a fiercely committed advocate on behalf of her students, a lifelong lover of the arts, and a devoted mother who attended every recital, play, and ball game.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan Bowen of Chicago, Illinois; her daughter, Sally Reeder of Watkinsville, Ga.; a sister, Carol Rachels, of Birmingham, Al.; grandchildren Riley and Nicholas; and her sons-in-law whom she adored, Blair Reeder and Larry Grimm.

Susan and Sally would like to thank the staff at St. Mary’s Hospice House and Mrs. Frances Oglesby for their excellent and compassionate care.
