Funeral Services will be held 11:00am Monday, June 25, 2012, at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary Chapel, 4071 Macon Road, with Dr. Jimmy Elder officiating. A private burial will follow in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon June 24th from 3-5 pm at the funeral home.
Mr. Cauthen was born February 23, 1922 in Barnesville, Georgia, the son of Chester A. and Maude Milner Cauthen. He graduated from Gordon Military College and entered the U.S. Army in 1942. He was a veteran of WWII and Korea obtaining the rank of Captain with the 341st Infantry 86th “Blackhawk” Division. He retired as a Sales Representative with Curtis 1000, Inc. In his retirement years he continued to work at the First Baptist Church and later at Goo Goo Car Wash. He was a Deacon Emeritus and member of First Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Scarbrough Sunday School Class. He was very active in the TV ministry, and was instrumental in moving the telecast from one black and white camera into today’s multiple color cameras. He served as a volunteer at the First Baptist Church Food Closet, and also served as past president of the Columbus Civitan Club.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Jeanette; children, Kathy and Sandy Barfoot, Paula and Bill Thompson, and Warren and Syrie Cauthen. Grandchildren include Will and Brooke Thompson, Dianne and Pete Olmos, Lisa and Zach Ames, Scott and Sonja Barfoot, Rebekah and Derek Brown, Curtis Cauthen and Landon Cauthen; great grandchildren, Savannah, Carolina and Levi Thompson, and Lilyanne Olmos; Sister-in-law, Earline Smith.
