James Thomas Wright, Jr., graced us with his presence on February 1, 1945. He was one of three children born to the late Sadie and James Wright, Sr. in New York City. James had a sister, Deborah and a brother, the late Ronald C. Wright. He was educated in the New York City school system.
In 1963, James enlisted in the United States Army. While stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia, James married the love of his life, Geraldine (Gerri) Willis on 23 April 1966. Their union was blessed with four children, Sylvester, Vickie, James III (Jake), and Nakkihia. Over the years, Gerri fondly called James “Daddy”, as they raised their children in Columbus, Georgia.
James Thomas Wright, Jr. received numerous accommodations while in the United States Army. James was a Drill Sergeant at Fort Benning, Georgia as an infantryman. James also went to Vietnam, while there he received the following awards: Vietnam Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars, Combat Infantry Badge, Republic Of Vietnam Champaign Medal, and Bronze Star Medal, Republic of Vietnam of Gallantry Cross. James Thomas Wright, Jr had illustrious 22 year career in the Army.
James was preceded in death by his parents Sadie and James T. Wright, Sr., and his brother, Ronald C. Wright. James was loved and respected by many and will be truly missed by his family and friends. His bright smile and keen sense of humor will live in our hearts forever.
After a lengthy illness, James’ sunset on November 20, 2021. James leaves to cherish his memory, his best friend and loving wife of 55 years, Gerri, three devoted sons, Sylvester, James III and Nakkihia, a beloved daughter, Vickie. A loving sister, Deborah Bell, brother-in-law Willie Bell and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
