James E. "Jim" Slaughter, age 76, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Tuesday February 4, 2020. James was born November 3, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois to Phyllis Elsie Patrick and Lawrence Edward Slaughter.
Jim's home town was Mitchell, Indiana. He attended the schools of Somerville High School in Somerville, New Jersey, Class of 1961 and Wesleyn School of Music in Illinois. Jim married the love of his life, Marty Jernigan Slaughter of Columbus, Georgia on June 13, 1998. Jim was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Columbus. Jim loved God, family and Auburn; he lived in total submission to his Saviour Jesus Christ, devotion to his family and War Eagle! Jim was a past Executive Director for Habitat for Humanity of Phenix City, AL and member of the Men's Christian Fellowship Monday Lunch Bunch. Jim loved to laugh with the grandchildren at confusing "Maw Maw". He taught Marty (by example ) to laugh in the hardest of times and taught his children that "It is never wrong to do the right thing". Jim would want to be remembered as an imperfect, devoted, obedient follower of Jesus Christ.
Jim is survived by his wife, Marty Jernigan Slaughter; daughter, Jennifer Slaughter (Marica); daughter, Leigh Davis (Averett); son, Schawn Cail (Angie); son, Brandon Bishop (Carrie), sister, Susan Nagel (Steven); grandchildren: Cason Cail, Devan Cail, Dell Davis, Kathryn Bishop, Michael Bishop, Lily Bishop, Ethan Slaughter, Maddox Slaughter, and Reed Slaughter; nephew, Brian Dunn (Tammy); best buddies: Tom Stryker and Gary Orr; husband-in-law, Danny Cail; and his canine companion, Maxie.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Edward Slaughter, and mother, Phyllis Elsie Patrick; and his canine companion, J.J.
