Mr. Simmons was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas on August 22, 1954, to the late James F. Simmons and Ethel B. Choate. James retired from the US Army in 1991 to reside in Ozark, Alabama with his wife Amanda C. Simmons. After retirement from the Army, James went on to work civilian service for the United States Government Department of Defense before retiring in 2021.
James was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved spending time with family and visiting the Brass Rail Lounge in Ozark to hang out with friends. James also loved watching western shows on Grit TV.
James was preceded in death by his parents, James F. Simmons and Ethel B. Choate; his wife, Amanda C. Simmons; and his son, James Scot Simmons.
He is survived by his loving son, Kevin Simmons (Elizabeth) of Phenix City, AL; his stepdaughter, Christa Lindsey (Brad); his stepson, Jeffrey Smith; five grandchildren, Jacob Simmons, Jesse Simmons, Mathew Calhoun (Janelle), Kenleigh Zollars (Zach), Tori Devillier (Preston); and five great grandchildren. He is also survived by his good friend and mother to his sons, Doris Thompson.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
