Columbus, Georgia- Helen W. Pearson, age 80, resident of Columbus, died on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at Muscogee Manor Nursing Facility. Funeral services are scheduled at the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus on Thursday, January 3, 2013, 3 p.m. with Reverend Jerry Speer officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 from 5-7 p.m.
Mrs. Pearson, daughter of the late George Williams and Bertie May Paseur Williams, was born August 26, 1932 in New Hope, Alabama. She was retired as the bookkeeper for Phenix Mechanical Contractor where she served many faithful years. Mrs. Pearson was a member of Northside Baptist Church, served as Past President of WMU, and a former choir member for over 35 years. She was also Past President of Rose Hill School PTA.
Mrs. Pearson was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Wilson Pearson. She is survived by one daughter, Joyce Smallwood Kidd and her husband Bob of Columbus; three sons, Ron Smallwood and his wife Janet, Mike Smallwood, and Ricky Smallwood and his wife Joyce, all of Columbus; three step-daughters, Fay Allen and her husband Robert, Yulane Wilson and her husband Frank, and Gayle Zylstra and her husband Frank, also all of Columbus; one step-son, Larry Pearson and his wife Sharon of Duluth, GA; eighteen grandchildren; twenty three great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; several nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Northside Baptist Church, Attn: Building Fund, 959 54th Street, Columbus, GA 31904 or Multiple Sclerosis Center of Atlanta, Palisades Bldg, 3200 Downwood Circle, Suite 550, Atlanta, GA 30327.
