Gloria was born in Brinkley, Arkansas, to the late Rev. Millard and Maurine Simpson. She was a studious child and earned an undergraduate degree in Education with a major in Biology. She met Charles Hidle while both were working in Rome, Georgia. They wed in 1963 and moved to Columbus, Georgia, where she had a career in Medical Technology. Later, she earned a Masters in Community Counseling and served the community through the Area Agency on Aging.
Most importantly, she spent a life in service to God. Upon arriving in Columbus, she and Charles joined East Highland Assembly of God, now Evangel Church. Until her death Gloria was active in her church teaching Sunday School classes of all ages. She enjoyed spending time daily in God’s word and was a spiritual blessing to many. She served God, her Church, family, and friends with boundless love, but she was especially enthusiastic in caring for and doting over her granddaughter, Claire.
A special pleasure was preparing family meals whether on a weeknight or for a special occasion. She will be deeply missed but we rejoice that she now sits at the feet of Jesus in glorious reward for the life she lived for Him.
Survivors include her loving husband Charles E. Hidle, son, Andy Hidle and wife Tish, granddaughter, Claire Hidle all of Columbus, a brother Billy E. Simpson and wife Irma, and niece, Donna Simpson, of Stuttgart, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by niece, Marty Simpson Holstead.
Those who wish are welcome to contribute to Evangel Church, Reach Project, in honor of Mrs. Gloria S. Hidle.
