Funeral services will be 11:00 am Wednesday, January 31, 2024 in the Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus with Dr. Jimmy Elder officiating. A private family interment to take place at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery, Ft. Mitchell, AL. A visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday from 10:00 am until service time.
Gary was born in Frisco City, AL, on September 14, 1940 to the late Oscar Davis McCrory and Louise White McCrory. He was a family man and a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and a surrogate father to his favorite daughter-in-law. Gary always put his family first. Gary was a devout Christian and a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Columbus. After high school, Gary earned his Master’s Degree in Education from Auburn University then a secondary degree in Education from the University of Georgia. He received an Honorable discharge from the U.S. Army as a 1st Lieutenant. Gary taught many years as a Teacher at Columbus High School. After his teaching career, he worked for the State of Georgia in the Occupational Rehab Department, and retired twice as the Director of the West Central Georgia’s program for Alcohol and Drug Abuse. Gary looked forward to his morning breakfast and his long walks at Cooper Creek Park with his son Gerald. He was always so very thankful to have Angie there taking great care of him and mom. “He was a Good Man”.
Gary was preceded in death by his wife, Julia Ann (White) McCrory; parents, Oscar Davis McCrory and Louise White McCrory; brothers, Vance, Billy, Bruce and Roger.
Survivors include his son, Gerald McCrory (Toni) and daughter, Angela Marie McCrory ; grandchildren, Brad Smith, Sr., Sky McCrory (Kristina), Russell Davis McCrory, Sr. (Keisha), Brianna Hofstadt (Daniel) and Heather Thompson; great grandchildren, Noah Hilliker, Bradley Thomas Smith, Jr., Russell Davis McCrory, Jr., Kaiden Rivers and Cameron Rivers.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Columbus.
