1SG (Ret) Forrest Childs Warren, 88, of Columbus, GA passed on Sunday, September 9, 2018 at Orchard View surrounded by his loving family. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at Parkhill Cemetery, with Revered Earl Rawlings officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 11, 2018 from 5:00pm-7:00pm.
Mr. Warren was born Jan. 12, 1930 in Banks, AL, the son of Clarence C. and Maggie L. Warren, Sgt. Forrest Warren served our great country for 20 years in the US Army and is a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars, he was a member of the 196th Infantry. He first joined the Army when he was 17 years old. After retiring in February of 1968 from the US Army at Ft. Benning, he applied at the Columbus Police Dept. where he kept us all protected for 25 years. He Spent many years as a patrol man, undercover officer, Internal Affairs and retired as Director of the Forgery Dept. before retirement in March 1992.
His new calling was teaching Sunday school at Crystal Valley Baptist Church. He loved studying his lesson and delivering the message every Sunday morning. Even when he wasn't supposed to drive, he would get up early and drive to the church at the wee hours of the morning before anyone else was up and out. He held a Master Degree in Criminal Justice from Troy State. He was dedicated to maintaining his fitness most of his life and put quite a few miles in every evening jogging and was into body building in his younger days. One of his best loved hobbies was working in his yard alongside his wife planting flowers and vegtables; they always grew the best tomatoes. Friday evening going to dinner with his family had been an ongoing tradition for more than 30 years. He always said please never stop this tradition as he looked forward to Friday evenings.
He is preceded in death by his wife Maudean E. Hannah Warren, parents, and their first born son, Richard E. Warren. Survivors include three children, Julia Warren Chambers, Catherine Warren Wharam(Robert) and John Warren (Donna); eight grandchildren, Mandy Wharam Stone (Patrick), Marcie Wharam Gavens (Jon), Jessica Chambers Jelinek (James), Ashley Nivens, Christopher Warren, Brandon Warren, Brandon Marks, and Nicholas Marks. 10 Great grandchildren and many great grand fur babies; brother, Harry Warren (Linda) ; sister, Emily Davis (Carroll); and a special friend to the family Helen Whaerg
