Elsie Fay Hampton

Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM Monday, August 22, 2011 in the chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA, 31907 with Reverend Billy Duncan officiating. Interment will follow in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon, August 21, 2011 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the funeral home.

Mrs. Hampton was born October 16, 1927 in Cataula, GA, daughter of the late Alonza Walter and Nellie Cooper McDowell. She retired after 30 years as a Private Duty Nurse, serving many families in the Columbus area. Mrs. Hampton was a longtime member of Beallwood Baptist Church and the Ruth Gleaners Sunday School Class and member of the Air Force Sergeant’s Association Auxiliary.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hampton was preceded in death by her loving husband of 37 years, Thomas J. Hampton.

Survivors include her four sons, Alonza W. Capps and his wife Leilani G. of Ellerslie, GA, Jeffrey Keith Hampton and his wife, Cate Ellis of Warrenton, MO, Richard D. Hampton and his wife, Bonnie E. of Jefferson, GA, and T. Scott Hampton and his wife, Tracy of Phenix City, AL; 11 grandchildren, Lori Leann Thompson, Kelly Michelle Drew, Benjamin Wayne Capps, Thomas Frank Hampton, Matthew Scott Hampton, David Collin Hampton, JoJo Lindsey Hampton, Jessica Ann Lindsey, Erich West, Elaine West, and Gazelle Genovia; four great grandchildren, Hunter Thompson, Shelby Thompson, Ryan Simpson Brown, and Kendall Brown; numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend many thanks to the Compassionate Care Hospice for their exceptional care and support.
