A service to celebrate Elliott’s life will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, July 30, 2024 at St. Paul United Methodist Church with Reverend John Fugh, Jr., officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Elliott was born on March 24, 1949 in Columbus, Georgia, the son of James DuPont Kirven, Jr., and Mrs. Shirley Armentrout Kirven. He attended Wynnton Elementary School, Richards Junior High School, Columbus High School, and graduated from Auburn University (War Eagle!) He was on the golf team at Auburn, and was also a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. After college, he moved back to Columbus and was set up on a blind date with Beth Stone, which lead to a happy 50 years of marriage. Elliott and Beth spent the first summer of their marriage in Arizona, where Elliott pursued his professional golf dream. Throughout his life he continued to play on mini-tours and in many other tournaments. He was a two-time winner of the Southeastern Amateur Tournament and won the Club Championship of CCC multiple times. Later, Elliott joined Kirven’s Department Store, the family business, where he was always greeting customers and sharing funny stories up until Kirven's doors closed 1993. If you ever needed to find Elliott, he could be located on a golf course with friends, or at a yard sale searching for a deal.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Beth” Stone Kirven; his daughter Elizabeth Stone Kirven Oettinger (John); son Phillip Elliott Kirven, Jr. (DeAun); and his grandchildren: Libba, Leo, Riggs and Ella, as well as his siblings: Frances Kirven Morse (John) and Hal Armentrout Kirven (Carol) and a host of nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his brother, James “Tippy” DuPont Kirven III (Frankie).
The family is grateful to the staff and caregivers at Thrive of Green Island. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to: Godwin Creek Golf Course, 403 42nd Street, Columbus, Georgia 31904 or St. Paul United Methodist Church, 2101 Wildwood Avenue, Columbus, Georgia 31906.
We know Elliott is teeing it up in Heaven on the most amazing course, back to his trick shots, and ripping it down the middle now that he has been made whole.
