Elbert Arrowood

SFC (Ret) Elbert “Bert” Arrowood, age 86, resident of Columbus, died on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at his residence. Funeral services are scheduled at the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus on Wednesday, December 21, 2011, 11 a.m. Interment with full military honors and Masonic honors will follow at Main Post Cemetery, Fort Benning, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 from 5-7 p.m. Mr. Arrowood, son of the late Melvin Arrowood and Bitha McCoy Arrowood, was born September 14, 1925 in Wolf Creek, KY. He was retired from the U.S. Army, where he served honorably for over 22 years. After retirement from the military, he began a career with civil service at Fort Benning, and faithfully served for over 25 years. He was a member of the Fort Benning Masonic Lodge. Mr. Arrowood also spent numerous hours volunteering at Calloway Gardens. He is preceded in death by one sister and two brothers. Mr. Arrowood is survived by his wife, Erika Arrowood of Columbus; one daughter, Kathy Harrell and her husband Billy of Hampton, TN; one sister, Della Gess of Lovely, KY; one step-daughter, Michelle Sellers and her husband Larry of Savannah, GA; one step-son, Audie Taylor and his wife Michelle of Fort Hood, TX; one grandson, Keith Harrel and his wife Lori of Dover, DE; four great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
