Edith Rogers Sanchez passed away Friday, April 20, 2018, at St. Francis Hospital of Columbus, Georgia. Her Family would like for friends and loved ones to join them in celebrating Edith’s memory for visitation, Tuesday, April 24, 2018, from 5 to 7 PM in Striffler-Hamby Mortuary’s Wynnton Room, 4071 Macon Road Columbus. On Wednesday, April 25, 2018, starting at 1 PM the family will hold funeral services in Striffler-Hamby’s Edgewood Hall with burial to follow at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery.
Edith Rogers Sanchez was born March 16, 1936 in Gate City, Virginia, to the late Allie McDavid and Bert K. Rogers. Edith would grow into a strong and independent woman who served proudly for her country as part of the Women’s Army Corps during the Korean Conflict in the early 50’s before discharging in the early 60’s. Ms. Sanchez met and married the love of her life, Eugene C. Sanchez, and would give birth to her daughter and the light of her life, Allison Sanchez. From that point forward, Edith would be fondly
remembered as a devoted wife a loving mother. Her loved ones find comfort in remembering her for her beautifully ornate quilting, crotchet projects, and thank you letters written from kids in decades past for her well-known sweet treats and kindness to all. Edith will be missed dearly by all who were ever given the chance to know and love her.
Along with her parents, Edith is preceded in death by her siblings: Bert Kyle Rogers, Jessee James Rogers, John Robert Rogers, Ruby Rogers, Georgia Ruth Waddell, BettyJean Morelock, Gladys Ann Calhoun, Wanda Lou Laney, and Maxie Lee Lane.
She is survived by: her loving husband, Eugene C. Sanchez; her daughter, Allison Sanchez; siblings William (Mildred) T. Rogers of Kingsport, Tennessee; a sister, Reba Hartgrove of Gate City, Virginia; a sister-in-law, Myrtle Rogers of Church Hill, Tennessee; and many other friends and loved ones who will forever cherish her memory.
