DeLois Jones Sumlin, 66, of Columbus, GA passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at Columbus Hospice House surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 10, 1958 in Memphis, Tennessee to the late Elmer and Robbie (Sales) Jones.
DeLois retired from United States Army as MSG, E8. Through her military career, she was stationed at Fort Benning, GA, where she became an active church member of ReFresh Worship Centre for 30 years. DeLois “Peaches”/ “Sis Sumlin” enjoyed volunteering for her church and community, enjoyed sleeping, walks in the park, going to the movies, and eating at Sapo’s Mexican restaurant with her friend, Kathy. She loved to travel and help set up weddings with her bestie, Lynda Copeland and loved to watch her old times Western shows.
Survivors include her daughter, Karenna (Alisha) Sumlin and grand-dog, Bella Sumlin of Riverdale, GA; her siblings, Lillie M. Tate of Richmond, CA, Elmer C. Jones, Jr. of Atoka, TN, James L. Jones of Chicago, IL, Etta L. Adams of Chicago, IL, Willa B. (Johnny) Tate of Richmond, IN, and Alma Jean Jones of Munford, TN; Karenna’s father, Leon Sumlin; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and friends who will miss her dearly. In addition to her parents, DeLois is preceded in death by her sister, Elizabeth Brown.
A Celebration of Life Funeral Service will be held at ReFresh Worship Centre, 3503 17th Avenue, Columbus, GA 31904 on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 11:00AM with Military Honors. Apostle Marshall McGill will be officiating service. Family will visit with friends at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Edgewood Hall, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA 31907 on Friday evening, October 25, 2024 from 6:00PM to 8:00PM. Burial will be held at Parkhill Cemetery, 4161 Macon Road, Columbus, GA 31907 on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at 11:00AM.
