Columbus, Georgia- David E. Moss. "Our Friend", passed away September 12, 2016 in Columbus, Georgia. Dave left this world for a better place where his kindness, gentlemanly ways, and loving spirit will be embraced. He was a friend to everyone and will always be remembered by those who were blessed by his friendship.
A Memorial Service is scheduled in the Chapel at Strifler-Hamby, Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia at 3:00 p.m. on Monday September 26, 2016, with inurnment to follow at Parkhill Cemetery.
Dave was preceded in death by his father, Edmund Moss, and his mother, Elizabeth Moss of Ottawa, Illinois. Dave was an only child and was born August 18, 1941. He was a renowned athlete and scholar as he grew up in Ottawa. After high school, he received an appointment to the U.S. Military Academy at West Point with the endorsement of the late Senator Everett Dirksen of Illinois. After his first year at the Academy, his father passed away and being an only child chose to return home to be with his mother. He continued his service in the Army Reserves where he later received an Honorable Discharge.
Dave graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor Degree in Accounting, and later a Master of Accounting Science in 1965. He received his Certified Public Accounting Certificate in 1969. In 1973, Columbus, Georgia became his home when he joined Ernst & Whinny as a tax manager. In 1977, he founded Cosgrove & Moss, C.P.A.s, and later established his own accounting practice, David E. Moss, C.P.A. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
