SFC (Ret) David Lockett Sr. was born January 14,1947 in Columbus, MS to the late Eddie James Lockett, Sr. and Ethel Watts Lockett . He was a member of Canaan Baptist Church. He departed his life on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at his home.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of forty-five years Jewel Lockett of Columbus, GA; two sons, Tim (Mia) Lockett and David Lockett, Jr.; daughter Veronica Lockett; two granddaughters, Mya Lockett and Tyanna Lockett; and one great-grandson Chandler Alexander all of Columbus, GA; two sisters, Will Ester Newsome of Philadelphia, PA and Rose Marie Montgomery of Tallahassee, FL; one brother, Larry Lockett of Fort Worth, TX. He is preceded in death by his brothers, Eddie James Lockett Jr., Joseph Lee Lockett, Sr. and Billy Lee Lockett.
He was the first male in the family to graduate high school. He was the peace-maker in the family. He did two tours in Vietnam. In 1980 SSG David Lockett became a Drill Sergeant when he graduated from company C- Second Battalion on December 17, 1980. He was a huge fan of Atlanta Braves and Falcons and he loved his family and friends. He loved BB King and also enjoyed playing the guitar in his down time.
A Visitation for family and friends will be held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary in Columbus, GA on Thursday, December 3, 2018 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. Funeral Services will be held at Canaan Baptist Church in Columbus, GA at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
