A memorial service will be held at 11:00 Friday, September 23, 2022 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary on Macon Road in Columbus, Georgia.
It is requested that those attending the service dress in colorful attire in a joyful celebration of Christine’s life. We rejoice in knowing Christine is in the presence of her Heavenly Father, Lord and Savior.
Christine was born December 26, 1938 in Troy, Pike County, Alabama to Willie Gaston Barron and Mary Eunice Matthews Barron. She graduated from Troy State University and obtained her Masters Degree from Georgia State University. She was a dedicated elementary school teacher with the Muscogee County School System as well as a teacher with several Christian schools in Columbus.
She was a member of Rose Hill Baptist Church and a member of their choir. She was a past member of the Columbus Chorale and the Georgia Baptist Jubalheirs. She was a very talented pianist and had a beautiful alto voice.
Christine was predeceased in death by her parents and her brothers, infant Norman Barron, David Barron and Jerry Barron. Survivors include her husband, Joe E. Murphree of 60 years of marriage, her daughter, Angela Murphree Sanes, her grandson, Shayne Murphree, and her sister, Joan Barron Geouge of Winston Salem, N.C.
Christine will be dearly missed by her family and all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Rose Hill Baptist Church, 2100 Hamilton Road, Columbus GA 31904, Columbus Hospice House, or to your favorite charity in memory of Christine Murphree.
