.SSG (Ret) Charlie William Brewster, 86, of Columbus, GA passed away Friday, February 26, 2016 at Gentiva Hospice. A Funeral Service will be held Monday, February 29, 2016 at 1:00 PM in the Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Road Columbus, GA., with Reverend James Gunn officiating. Burial will follow at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4:00-6:00 PM in the Mill Room.
Mr. Brewster, son of the late Wiley and Birdie Brewster, was born May 14, 1929 in Hayesville, NC. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army as a Tank Gunner and Truckmaster, with two tours in the Korean Conflict and one tour in Vietnam Era Conflict. After retiring from the U.S. Army, he worked at Dolly Madison Bakery and then retired to stay at home with his loving wife. Mr. Brewster was a member of Real Life Church of God, enjoyed working in the yard, mowing his grass and gardening. He was a member of the 29’ers Club. Mr. Brewster loved to socialize and never met a stranger, was a loving husband and the best father to his two daughters. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Zelma Brewster of Columbus, GA; daughters Wanda Brewster-Harris (David) of Acworth, GA and Portia Walker (J.R.) of Canton, GA.
