He moved to Columbus, Georgia where he worked for a windows, doors and patio covers business. He was then invited to become a partner and eventually went on to start his own company. He continued to work in the field years after selling his business, up into his mid-seventies.
Lewis was a Christ-follower and an early member of East Highland United Methodist Church and then St. Mark United Methodist Church in Columbus, Georgia. He was a dedicated member of AA. He spent 39 years in the program and was a mentor to many, leading countless others to live productive, addiction-free lives.
Lewis was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Lavonne, his two sons, Jason (Renee) and Alan (Laurie), and his daughter, Terry. But the delights of his heart were his three grandchildren, Taylor (Dorsey), Brantley (Noah), and Emily. He also adored his two great-grandchildren, Aiden and Wilder. He treasured his siblings, Floyd (Nell), Jack (Mary), Tommy (Sherby), George (Margaret), Ruth (Wiley), and Jewel (Ed). He loved going on family vacations and getting together with family to celebrate holidays.
Visitation will be held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary in Columbus, GA on Friday, July 29, 2022 from 2 p.m. - 3 p.m. with a service to follow immediately at 3 p.m. (no graveside service).
