Carol Hutcheson passed away Monday, Jan 24 after a long health journey. She grew up in Birmingham, Al. and attended Auburn University where she graduated in elementary education. Following her marriage to Jim Hutcheson, she completed her graduate degrees and finished her formal education with her doctorate. She served in many capacities in her professional life as a classroom teacher, reading specialist, and concluded her working career as a middle school principal at East Columbus Middle School.
During her working career she always found time to contribute to causes and organizations. She served on the local Red Cross board of directors, the Alpha Chi Omega Greek sorority Foundation board, and the Georgia Elementary Principal’s Association. She was an active member of First Presbyterian Church as worked with the youth program for many years. She was an elder of Grace Presbyterian Church until she became ill.
In her leisure time she liked to travel. She and her husband enjoyed visiting many international sites with a travel group from her brother’s church in Birmingham. She was an avid reader and would rarely be caught without her Kindle.
She leaves a family which includes her husband Jim, her son Matt Hutcheson (Nicole), and her two brothers John Edmundson (Marcia) and Bill Edmundson (Lauren). Services to celebrate her life will be held Saturday, Jan 29 at 2:00 pm at Parkhill Cemetery.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorial gifts be made to the building fund for Grace Presbyterian Church, ECO – gracechurchcolumbus.org
