Columbus, Georgia- Buddy Allgood, age 67, resident of Columbus, died on Friday, January 3, 2014 at Columbus Medical Center. Memorial services are scheduled at Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, Columbus on Saturday, January 11, 2014, 2 p.m. with Reverend (Dr.) Kevin Calhoun officiating. The family will receive friends prior to service at the funeral home from 1-2 p.m.
Mr. Allgood, son of John Adolf Allgood and the late Pauline Elaine Crane Allgood, was born July 15, 1946 in Brookhaven, Mississippi. He was retired from the U.S. Army as a Captain where he served his country honorably during the Vietnam Era Conflict. During his distinguished career, Mr. Allgood served his first tour of duty in Vietnam as a platoon leader. After severe injuries, he returned and later became the first military soldier to complete jump school with a prosthetic leg. Mr. Allgood then returned to Vietnam as a Commanding Officer. During his military career he received numerous decorations to include the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Army Commendation Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal w/4 bronze service stars. Mr. Allgood was Methodist by faith and retired as Manager of AMEC Inc. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Allgood, and a brother, Wayne Allgood. Mr. Allgood is survived by his wife, Linda Allgood of Columbus; three daughters, Carolyn D. "Dee Dee" McKeller of Auburn, Alabama, Kimberly Pate and her husband James of Columbus, and Paula Alexich and her husband Dan of Harris County, Georgia; his father, John Allgood of Columbus; two sisters, Cherie Butler Duncan and her husband Doug of Columbus and Kay Branch of Columbus; three brothers, Ronnie Allgood of Augusta, Georgia, Ray Allgood of Columbus, and Eddie Allgood, also of Columbus; six grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
