Bobby R. Cox

Bobby R. Cox, 80, of Ellerslie, GA passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at his residence. Mr. Cox was born January 23, 1938 to the late Freddie R. and Vera Mae Cox in Crisp County, GA. He graduated from West Crisp County High School and joined the U. S. Air Force. After serving his country for four years, he left the Air Force and moved to Columbus, GA to join the Columbus Fire Department. Mr. Cox retired as a Captain after 31 years of service to the City of Columbus. He was a member of Bethesda Baptist Church in Ellerslie, GA.

Mr. Cox was preceded in death by his first wife, Brenda Cox; 5 brothers, Earl Brewer, Edward Brewer, Billy Cox, Vester Cox and Harry Cox.

He is survived by his beloved wife and caregiver, Nita Cox; a son, Gregg Cox (Linda); a daughter, Lisa Currier (Andrew); a stepson, Ray Carroll; two stepdaughters, Julie Barron and Kathy Carroll; six grandchildren; eight step grandchildren; a sister, Annie Ruth Smith; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, January 29, 2018 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Edgewood Hall, Columbus, GA. Interment will take place in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. on Sunday, January 28, 2018 at the funeral home.
