Annie was Born September 6, 1933 on a farm in Clay County, Georgia to John Oscar Childers and Clara Vandora Childers. At a young age with her family, she settled in Smith Station, Alabama. She enjoyed playing girls basketball before graduating from Smiths Station High School in 1950.
She worked in three of our local mills: Bibb, Eagle and Phenix for 30 years. She was an active member of her community and loved to arrange fruit boxes for her loved ones on Holidays. Her love for animals was apparent in her dedication to animal rescue and adoption.
She is preceded in death by her husband Burnice Rooks and her son Robert Rooks.
Annie is the last survivor of eight siblings. She is survived by her son Larry Rooks; six grandchildren, many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and loved ones; the granddaughter she loved and called her own, Rosanna Collins.
Annie will be especially remembered by her smile and kind words to others that served to strengthen and encourage them. She upheld the most prestigious position as a wife and mother. She will be missed by many, and she was loved by all that she met.
She leaves behind a wonderful circle of loved ones that has helped mold her. Vaudine Long and Faye Crandall are not only nieces to Annie but also, the strength of many women to help all in their family. To her loving nephew Wayne Williams, you are a dear friend.
There are no last words that can express our grief, but we rejoice in our loving memories of Annie. We ask that you join our family to celebrate her life and home going.
