Woody was a native of Columbia, SC. He was born on March 16, 1956 to Woodward White Williams, Jr. and Ingrid Winkler Williams. He attended high school at Woodberry Forest School in Virginia. He received a bachelor’s and master’s degree in Architecture from Clemson University.
Woody married Rebecca “Becki” Suggs in 1980. They lived in Columbia, SC and Hendersonville, NC where they loved entertaining with friends. But their happiest moment was when their son Bennett was born in 1993.
After Becki’s death, Woody reconnected with his architecture classmate, Patricia “Tricia” Anne Kuna. Woody and Tricia married in 2004. They loved traveling everywhere, especially when their travels included a tour of Frank Lloyd Wright designed buildings.
Woody enjoyed golfing with his friends at Forest Lake Country Club. A highlight of each year was attending the Masters Tournament. He was artistic and enjoyed sketching. However, his greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends.
Woody started his career at the Columbia Design Center and later owned his own firm. For the past few years, he was an architect with the SC Dept. of Vocational Rehabilitation. He generously gave his time and talent to assist many friends and family with their residential designs.
Woody was an active member of Shandon Presbyterian Church. He served as a deacon and was a member of the Generations Sunday School class.
Woody will always be remembered for his kindness, his patience, and his willingness to listen. He was a proud family man.
He greeted you with his genuine smile and inviting hugs. He had a true interest in people. He was the kind of friend everyone wished they had.
In addition to his parents, Woody was predeceased by wife Becki and stepson Hunter Hudson. Woody is survived by his wife Tricia, son Bennett, sister Ingrid Williams Clark, and extended family in the US and Canada.
A celebration of Woody’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 3 at Shandon Presbyterian Church, with a reception following the service. His family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m., prior to the service.
