A funeral service for Coach Tommy Lamar Ringo, 67, of Gaston, will be held at 12 o’clock Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Gantt Street Baptist Church, 2121 Gantt St., Cayce with The Rev. Gene Rowell officiating. Interment will follow in Southland Memorial Gardens. Serving as pallbearers will be, Bubba Russell, Jamie Russell, Jamie Russell, Jr., Mark Ringo, Wade Ringo and J. W. Ringo. The family will receive friends beginning at 10:30 o’clock, Saturday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to The American Cancer Society, SC Division, 128 Stonemark Lane, Columbia, SC 29210. Shives Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel is assisting the family.
Born December 19, 1943 in Dermott, Arkansas, Mr. Ringo was a son of the late Lamar F. Ringo and Gertrude Cosby Ringo. He was owner and operator of Ringo’s Produce and was a member of Gantt Street Baptist Church. Coach Tommy started the CAP Baseball League for Children with disabilities and coached for many years in Dixie Youth Baseball and CWC Football.
Survivors include his wife, Eula Jemell Ringo; sons, Johnny (Cheryl) Ringo of South Congaree, Sidney Ringo of Lexington, James “Danny” (Amey) Ringo of Gaston; daughter, Stacy (William) Miller, IV of Cayce; sisters, Sharon Krell of Greenville, Carol Russell of Gaston, Jackie Branson of Cayce, Deborah (Chuck) Hall of West Columbia; brother, Marion (Violet) Ringo of Eastover; grandchildren, Abagael, Ashley, Whitney, John Wesley “J.W.”, Jamie and Amanda; great-grandson, Bradley; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Ringo was preceded in death by a grandson, Willie Ringo and sisters, Mable Branham and Lynn Ringo.
