Sara was a graduate of Shelby High School and Salem College in Winston-Salem, NC, with a bachelor’s degree in public school music. She taught music and kindergarten in several churches and schools. Sara also had a kindergarten march that she wrote copyrighted.
She and her family traveled the world extensively from Alaska to Antarctica. She and her husband of 67 years visited every continent. Upon retirement, Sara and David lived in Venice, FL, and Columbia, SC, with their much-loved Boston Terriers.
She is survived by her daughter, Edith Thompson Black of Columbia, SC, and her son Earle (Jean) of Dallas, TX. Sara also has five grandchildren and five great grandsons, all who affectionately know her as “Missy.” She was predeceased by her brother, Earle Anthony Hamrick, Jr.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, February 21, at 2 p.m., at Forest Lake Presbyterian Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Forest Lake Presbyterian Church or Carolina Wildlife Rescue.
